Annual Reports - 1940
With the outbreak of the Second World War occurring during the 1939/40 Financial Year, the annual reports
include comments on the War's impact on the Bank. The Bank's Balance Sheet shows the first investments made with the National Debt
Commissioners to assist the Government's financing of the War. Hours of Business are changed and more female staff are recruited -
a change in the Corporation's pre-War policy that required female staff to resign upon marriage. Additional services are provided
over branch counters in relation to Civil Defence Wages, Evacuation Fees, and the sale of National Savings products.
