Annual Reports - 1937
During the year 1936/37, 1,673 mortgages are reported as granted, the third highest number in the
history of the Bank, but this presumably includes 466 transferred from Solihull Urban District Council. The Report repeats advice
to potential mortgagors that has been offered previously regarding the need for caution when considering the purchase of a house.
Attention is also drawn to a recent Government warning regarding investments in undertakings which are not considered to be sound.
On May 12th 1937, the Coronation of King George VI took place - the Bank marked the occasion by opening accounts with the sum of 5/-
for children born in the Bank's area during Coronation Week. The Report to the City Council made reference to the Code of Ethics that
had recently been drawn up by the Building Societies Association.
