Annual Staff Cricket Match

The Annual Staff Cricket Match was a much brighter affair this year, with the return to the field of the members of the fair sex - this was a necessary fillip to this summer's activities. It was a pleasure also to welcome members of the Staff who had not seen a cricket bat for some years - and to play before a crowd of some "60 bodies", was an awe inspiring event. (The usual crowd number two interested spectators, one person fast asleep, two children playing football and one dog chasing a tabby cat. Ah Well!)

The Youngsters (under 30) scored 106 runs and did not think that they had much chance of winning. However, the "Aged Ones" were soon in trouble and tumbled to 28 runs for 8 wickets - due in some way to the devastating bowling of Mesdames V Mapperley, J Macbeth and P Wall. A recovery was made by the tail-enders who mustered 73 runs, for a final total of 101 - a narrow defeat.
