When Mabel Peers left the Staff on 30th November, it was the end of an era. Her parents were caretakers at Head Office long ago when we were 'housed' in Edmund Street; and her father's name is perpetuated in the annual presentation of the Frank Kirtland Cup by the Bank Cricket Club.
Mabel first joined the Staff in 1927, leaving in 1929 to get married. In 1939, following a request from Mr Carver, she agreed to rejoin the staff temporarily for the duration of the war. After the death of her first husband she stayed on with the Bank until ill-health forced her early retirement.
Although she spent over twenty years at Pype Hayes Branch (where she met her present husband) she was well known to many of the Staff, all of whom hope that her health will improve and that she will enjoy a long and happy retirement.
