As you are all aware, Mr. L.C. Abbiss retired on the 29th February last, probably being influenced to some extent by the fact that he had not enjoyed the best of health in recent years.
Leslie Joined the Bank in March 1923 and has almost completed 45 years service, being promoted from general clerk to cashier in January 1929, and subsequently to Branch Manager in February 1932, and in this capacity has been managing Erdington Branch for several years.
With the advent of World War II, he was first enrolled in the A.R.P. service and was called up into the Armed Forces in June 1942. During service with the Royal Signals, Leslie saw active service overseas and was precipitated on to the Italian coast at the commencement of the bitterly fought landing at Salerno.
We shall all miss such a reliable stalwart of the Bank and we all wish both Leslie and Mrs. Abbiss many happy years of leisure in theirretirement.
