News Letter: Christmas 1958
Ernest ("Tim") Price
The above edition of the staff magazine included an
appreciation
of the career of Ernest Price
GONE - BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.
Delving into the archives covering over 40 years, I have come across a letter from the first General
Manager of the Bank, the late Mr J P Hilton. In this letter of 1925 he said that Mr E Price had joined the Staff and he was coming
to Balsall Heath Branch at which, at that time, I was the Manager. I did not know Mr Price, but I soon found out.
Whether 'Tim'
learned anything from me I do not know, but I certainly profited from his tact, sociability, meticulous work and loyalty. Those were
happy days and my regard for him increased through the years that followed.
Dear! Dear! - his keenness was boundless. Even after
the rigours of Monday and Saturday (as it was then) evenings, we were wont to repair elsewhere to continue our 'studies' until closing
time.
Now the time has come to lay down the sword, shed the armour and leave the battlefield. He bore his standard with dignity,
the heralds have sounded his retirement but his prowess will be sung by many a minstrel in the years ahead.
Here's to you, 'Tim'
and to your charming wife. May the future bring added happiness and contentment to you both.
